Queensland commenced both the Regional Sausage King and the Butcher’s Choice competitions in Brisbane in early March with entries up by 50% over last year. Tremendous turnouts followed at each of the heats covering Gold Coast & Hinterland, Sunshine Coast & Burnett, Capricorn, Tropical and Outback.
With over 165 sausage entries and 27 Butcher's Choice entries, the Sunshine Coast & Burnett had a record turnout.
At the Sunshine Coast & Burnett Heat over 30 ILBs took part in the beachside cook-off. Charles Van Beelen pulled off a hat-trick by taking the three top spots in the Wet Dish category. Many members graciously donated sausages to the Rural Fire Brigade, which raised $1,500 on the day. Thanks go out to Wayne Dickinson who cooked all of the sausges for the charity sizzle.

The Capricorn Heat at Keppel Bay Sailing Club in April saw Norm Milner scoop five of the six Sausage King categories! His Pizza Sausage in the Gourmet section was one winner although the competition was tough with other notable entries of Chunky Pork & Guinness and Lamb & Pumpkin coming in close.
The Tropical Heat was capped off with none other than a Hawaiian-themed dinner. Sausages judged at the event were donated to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal through ABC country Radio.
The final Regional Heat was for the Outback district and was held at the Charleville Turf Club during the annual race meeting. Several butchers had multiple wins in both Butcher’s Choice and Sausage King. Rob and Rhonda Ashton won both the Meat Pie of Pastry Dish catergory with Savoury Beef Pie and the Wet Dish category with Beef Lasagne.
