Fat Claims

The Meat Importers Council of America (MICA) have developed with Australia and New Zealand a set of Guidelines for the settlement of Fat Claims. The MICA Guidelines are just that, Guidelines, but provide a template for AMIC members to use when trading with North America where they do not have a direct relationship with the importer that would allow them to come to agreement independently on how Fat Claims might be settled.

AMIC continues to negotiate aspects of the Guidelines with MICA to ensure they best reflect the trading environment of the day and represent a fair and transparent settlement process for Fat Claims on product sold on a chemical lean (CL) basis. The Guidelines have a market based settlement criteria with a monthly adjustment factor based on the price spread between domestic 50’s and domestic 90’s.

Set out below are links to a copy of the current MICA Guidelines. For the Settlement of Fat Claims, a summary table of the Monthly Adjustment Factors used to settle Fat Claims on a monthly basis as well as the latest policy position on Fat claims provided by AMIC’s Fat Claims Committee.
