Website Privacy Statement


The Australian Meat Industry Council has a firm commitment to privacy in accordance with the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988. This statement discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this site.

If you are submitting personal details or other information over the internet which you wish to remain private, please note that, while all attempts are made to secure information transmitted to this site, there is a possibility that information you submit could be observed by a third party while in transit.

Information Logged
agInfo (which hosts the AMIC website) makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes - your server address, your top level domain name (eg. .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc.), the date and time of your visit, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify you or your browsing activities. 

Email Addresses
AMIC will only record your e-mail address if you send us a message. It will only be used for the purpose for which you provide it and will not be added to a mailing list unless you request that this be done. We will not disclose it without your consent.

Cookies
A cookie is an electronic token that is passed to your browser and your browser passes it back to the server whenever a page is sent to you. Our server generates one cookie which is used to keep track of the pages you have accessed while using our server. The cookie allows you to page back and forwards through the web site and return to pages you have already visited. The cookie exists only for the time you are accessing our server. Cookies are not used for any other purpose at this site. We do not use cookies to collect personal information.

Purpose of this policy
The Australian Meat Industry Council is covered by the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) and takes all reasonable steps to comply with the Act and protect the privacy of the personal information that it holds.

In order to protect your right to privacy, AMIC has developed this Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy explains:

How we collect and use your personal information
Your right of access to your personal information
Your right to inspect and, where necessary, correct the personal information that we hold about you
Your right to have your privacy complaints investigated and resolved
Your right to have your personal information protected from misuse or unauthorised access
This policy applies to independent contractors and job applicants, as well as individuals who provide AMIC with their personal information.

What is 'personal information'?
Personal information is any information that can be used to identify a person no matter how it is collected or recorded.

What personal information do we collect and use?
AMIC is a member based public company (limited by guarantee) registered under the Corporations Act 2001.

AMIC provides membership services such as:

Managing issues impacting on members
Coordinating member input to policy development
Disseminating information
Assisting with implementation of quality systems
Industrial advocacy
Human Resource consultancy
Facilitating effective internal and external communication
Promoting effective external networks
Representing members at meetings, seminars, and other appropriate forums
The membership services are provided by AMIC and its related entities including:

In most cases our services are provided to organisations and individuals that are members of AMIC. Generally, personal information is collected by AMIC when dealing with key individuals from organisations, individual members and when recruiting.

Should we collect personal information from you this may include your name, current address, email address, telephone numbers, credit card details and other means of personal identification.

We will not use your personal information for any purpose which is not related to the product or service we provide o you or for any purpose for which you would not reasonably expect us to use your personal information.

Your personal information may also be used:

to provide you with further information about the products and services you requested;
for administration purposes, including charging, billing and collecting debts; and
to promote and market other products and services of AMIC which we consider may be of interest to you.
We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information that we hold is accurate and up-to-date. If you feel that information about you is not accurate or your details have or are about to change, please inform us and we will correct or update your personal information.

If you would like to access any of our services on an anonymous basis please tell us. If this is possible and lawful, we will take all reasonable steps to comply with your request. However, if you choose not to provide us with your personal information we may not be able to provide you with the services you require, or the level of service on which we pride ourselves. 

What happens if you choose not to provide your personal information?
You are not obliged to give us your personal information. However, if you choose not to provide AMIC with personal details, such as your name or address, the range of options available to you or the organisation that is a member of AMIC, may be limited. For example, AMIC may not be able to provide the full range of member services or allow you or your organisation to participate in networking functions, seminars and events.

How do we collect personal information?
Where possible, we collect your personal information directly from you. If you feel that the information that we are requesting, either on our forms or in our discussions with you, is not information that you wish to provide, please feel free to raise this with us.

When dealing with membership matters, AMIC collects the following:

Name of the contact person or people for the member organisation;
Business address and contact details; and
Nature of services being sought.
We collect information by phone, in person and in writing (e.g. email, fax, letter). We will use this information to provide membership services and may also use it for marketing purposes.

When dealing with independent contractors, AMIC collects the following:

Name;
Business address and contact details;
Insurance details; and
Rates and fees.
AMIC collects this information by phone, in person and in writing. We will use this information to ensure that our independent contractors can perform work for AMIC in a safe and lawful manner.

When dealing with job applicants, AMIC collects the following:

Name;
Date of birth;
Address/contact details;
Occupation;
Career history; and
References.
AMIC collects this information in the course of job interviews, telephone discussions, reference checks and in writing. AMIC will use this information to assess the suitability of applicants for a position. In the event that the job application is rejected, AMIC may keep the information to use in the event that an appropriate vacancy arises.

When do we disclose your personal information?
We guarantee that we will not sell your personal information to any third party.

For the purposes referred to in this policy, we may disclose your personal information to external organisations including:

outsourced service providers, such as Food Safety auditors, who manage some of the services we offer to you;
professional advisors, including insurance brokers; and
our related entities and companies.
Access to your personal information
You have a right to access your personal information, subject to certain exceptions provided for in the Privacy Act. If you require access to your personal information, please email us at admin@amic.org.au. For security reasons, you will be required to put your request in writing and provide proof of your identity.

Security of your information
We will take all reasonable steps to secure your personal information. Electronic information is protected by various security measures and access to information and databases is restricted, by password protection and physical security measures, to staff and officers of AMIC.
